The Smashing Pumpkins, also known simply as Smashing Pumpkins, are an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, bassist D'arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Since the band's formation, Corgan has been its principal songwriter and only constant member. The current line-up consists of Corgan, Iha and Chamberlin.
