"Emails I Can't Send" is the fifth studio album by American singer Sabrina Carpenter, released on 15 July 2022 through Island Records. The album is primarily a pop record with styles including bedroom pop and folk-pop, featuring synth-pop production and elements of alternative pop, electropop, and storytelling. Its concept revolves around emails and messages Carpenter intended to send to others but chose to keep private.
The album was supported by five singles: "Skinny Dipping," "Fast Times," "Vicious," "Because I Liked a Boy," and "Nonsense." Carpenter promoted the release with the "Emails I Can't Send Tour," which began in September 2022. A deluxe edition, "Emails I Can't Send Fwd," was released in 2023 and included the single "Feather." The album charted within the top 30 in Argentina, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United States, and received generally favourable reviews, appearing on Rolling Stone and Billboard lists of the best albums of 2022.
Carpenter began working on the album in June 2019, while promoting her fourth studio album "Singular: Act II." In 2020, she released the stand-alone single "Honeymoon Fades" and contributed vocals to the "Clouds" soundtrack. In January 2021, she signed with Island Records, describing it as an ideal place to start the next chapter of her music career. Her first release under the label was the single "Skin."
Several tracks on the album were written from emails Carpenter had sent to herself. Recording was completed in New York City with collaborators including Julia Michaels, JP Saxe, John Ryan, and Leroy Clampitt, following her move to Manhattan’s Financial District in June 2021.
