'Fire It Up' is the third studio album by American musician Rick James (featuring The Stone City Band.
The album was released on October 16, 1979 by the Motown owned Gordy Records.
It was produced by Rick himself. It contains the US R&B #13 (US Dance #32) hit - "Love Gun" where everytime Rick's (supposed) lover wants to meet Rick, she should shoot him with her "love gun"
The album peaked at #5 on the US R&B Charts (#34 on the US Charts) and was certified Gold by the RIAA
The album kicked off the Fire It Up Tour with Prince as the opening act. The tour is famously assumed to have been the reason Prince saw success in his live performances and captured on the Funk audience of Rick James and outshined him starting probably the greatest rivalry between multi-hyphenated artists.. ever! Fire It Up was released on CD for the first time in 2010, by Universal Records. This item soon went out of print and has become a much sought after and very rare item for fans of Rick James and funk in general. The 2014 Expanded Re-issue by the Estate contained the 12" Version of "Love Gun"
