St. Louis to Liverpool was released in November 1964 on Chess Records, catalogue LP 1488. Conceived partly as a response to the British Invasion - where UK bands heavily covered his material - the album served as a major creative comeback following Berry's release from prison. The tracklist struck a balance between fresh studio creations and established hits, featuring eight brand-new tracks alongside four previously released singles, including "No Particular Place to Go" and "You Never Can Tell".
Continuing the newfound chart momentum of its predecessor, the record became a greater commercial success than the first 5 studio records. It climbed to number 124 on the Billboard Top LPs chart.
