"Who Made Who" is a soundtrack album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It was released on 26 May 1986 as the soundtrack for the Stephen King film "Maximum Overdrive". The album was reissued in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters series.
Three tracks on the album – "Who Made Who", "D.T." and "Chase the Ace" – were newly written and recorded specifically for the release. The remaining tracks were previously issued by the band on earlier albums. Only the song "Ride On" features former lead vocalist Bon Scott, who died in 1980, while the other tracks feature his successor Brian Johnson.
In conjunction with the album, AC/DC released a 24-minute video compilation containing promotional videos for "Who Made Who", "You Shook Me All Night Long", a remixed version of "Shake Your Foundations", and "Hells Bells", as well as live footage of "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" recorded in Detroit in 1983.
The music video for the title track, directed by David Mallet, was filmed at the Brixton Academy in London. It features numerous performers portraying clones of guitarist Angus Young. According to "AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll", the participants included several hundred fans, many of whom waited overnight outside the venue to take part, including members of the band's UK fan club and individuals who had learned of the event through radio announcements.
"Who Made Who" was written for "Maximum Overdrive", a film in which machines become autonomous and hostile toward humans. The song's lyrics address themes related to technology created by humans gaining control over their creators and the resulting reversal of power dynamics.
Although "Maximum Overdrive" received negative critical reception and performed poorly at the box office, the soundtrack achieved commercial success. It reached number 16 on the UK Albums Chart and number 33 on the US Billboard 200. The title track became one of the band's most successful singles in several years, reaching the top 10 in Australia and number 16 in the United Kingdom. It was also voted the second-best track of 1986 by readers of Hit Parader magazine. A re-release of "You Shook Me All Night Long" from the album reached number 46 in the UK singles chart. The album has sold approximately five million copies in the United States. Reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic described the album as a retrospective of AC/DC's work and noted the inclusion of selected tracks from earlier, less successful albums.
